The Google Nexus One is a piece of shit.. or at least its battery

After having owned and used the Google Nexus One for a couple of weeks now I must say that you become absolutely addicted to all the functionality that modern smart phones such as the Nexus provides. Surely, being technically interested helps, having switched from an old Sony Ericsson phone helps and, last but not least, having had your laptops disk drive (Intel X25-M) crash helps to fuel this addiction. My addiction really became apparent to me when my Nexus died on me just the other day. I had used it quite a lot so battery was slightly less than 50% and so to recharge it I had it connected to a MacBook Pro. A few hours later when trying to wake it up I found it to be dead. I naturally pushed the power-on button only to see a few seconds of the animated X you usually get during boot and then the phone went black. Completely dead.

After some fiddling around, I picked up my good ol' voltmeter and measured on the battery - somewhere around 0.65V. Checked the power output pins on the phone and they were indeed giving out some 4Volts, quite normal for charging a 3.7V battery. Left the battery to charge over the night only to wake up and measure the exact same result. Battery seems broken. From my understanding Li-Ion batteries brake if you discharge them enough and virtually all electronic equipment turn themselves off when the battery is too low - just to protect the battery. So how did the Nexus manage to break this battery? I dunno. I'm disappointed. Luckily, I had a spare battery ordered from Google. Given some time I will try to get my old one going again, but that's for another post... so, the Google Nexus One might not be such a piece of shit, but I am very disappointed in how it handles this charging functionality.

and moral of the story, make sure you don't discharge your battery fully - you might risk breaking it :/
